Then got behind a 3.2 Carrera on the way back for ~50 miles on the fastest piece of VA highway. Clear air at 70 degrees vs the norm was pretty nice. I didn't quite get to the Blue Ridge pkwy, but the curves and scenery were still great. The road is highly recommended. (Not my car, but at least my mom paid for it!)

Hows the Z4? I want a hardtop version. Beautiful car.

I love it. Perhaps it isn't as good as a Boxster, but with the N/A engine, 6MT, and stiffer suspension it has a lot of character and is a great alternative. The hardtop made fast highway cruising quite pleasant, and does really change the car. Below 4k RPM you can put your foot down hard without being reckless, but above that it really screams!

Sounds sweet. Its on my list of my next car. So the suspension is stiffer than Porsche cayman/boxster?

I love the Z4, but I think the new Z4 18i is kind of lame with only 150hp. But there's the 35is for that.

I'm not sure if it's stiffer than the Porsches, but the M-sport package with the N52 and 6MT really transforms it into a good driver's car when that's what you want. I'd go with a 30i because they will be pretty reliable, lighter, and more responsive. M-sport gives you adjustable suspension that actually works and lets you disable traction control. The classic proportions and driving style made me like the car, but its dynamics, hardtop and engineering make it more livable than it should be!

Thanks for the info. I've been looking at the 35 just because of the power and top of the line lol. But I love light cars so you might be right

That's true, but really getting on the 18i would probably make it really fun. The 30i was a happy medium in my opinion, smooth and let you get on it below 4k RPM, but had enough power and high-end grunt to make you feel loved haha. I'll forego the fancy DCT for Getrag's brilliant 6 speed manual, and the turbos for fun and feel. I was genuinely surprised when I learned of the 18i, though—it really doesn't make enough power for what it is and doesn't get better gas mileage than the 28i!

There is literally no legitimate reason to choose a 28i/30i over a 35i/is; you're just making stuff up. Why would you not want more power?

"Fun and feel." I loled.

I don't mean to sound like a BMW purist, but if I go with one I'd have to go with their smooth and rev-happy NA sixes. The N54/55 is fantastic and really powerful, but be sure to give a used 30i M-sport a chance and get it up to at least 6k RPM... that's a key thing that sold me on the N52 (among other things, of course). No matter what, though, it would be a good option!

I was comparing the 30i to the 35i, and that was based on personal experience. Purely an opinion. There's no real reason to buy an 18i when a 28i which makes far more power gets the same gas mileage and provides a better experience. Those are two individual points I was trying to make. Or why not just ridicule people?

The statement insinuating that you would prefer a 30i to a 35i because it offers more "fun and feel" deserves to be ridiculed.

Please quantify "fun and feel."

You can't quantify fun and feel, nor can you quantify the value of an opinion. A thing which, if not based off a stats sheet, seems liable to be shat on here nowadays. If I remember correctly, you own an E21 and an NA miata. Neither car is good by any metric or quantifiable means, but are considered excellent cars by those who drive them. If ridicule opinions is what you want do, you're barking up the wrong tree. I'm too stupid and set in my ways o be told that the facts are all that matter.

You saying that the 30i is a better car is a subjective opinion based purely on conjecture.

I base my opinions on facts, objective evidence, and personal experiences.

You are correct; E21s are not "good" cars by any means. I liked mine because it made me about a grand in profit when I sold it.

On the other hand, to say that a Miata is not good by "any metric or quantifiable means" is purely ignorant.

A miata, or most any classic car, is best for what is not measurable. Loving cars is never based on objective evidence, which would lead anyone to believe that I'm crazy for preferring a 30i. A miata is a fantastic car, but won't make tons of stock power, pull 1 lateral g, or get unbelievable gas mileage. Quite frankly, you won't be satisfied with anything I say so I am not going to participate in yet another pointless argument about fact vs opinion. The fact that someone can't recommend a car based on the way it feels without someone being confrontational is just ridiculous, and much of the problem with the automotive community today. I would refer you to this ( http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/are-we-mice-or… ) post in justification of my point of view.

Awesome! Choosing a car is purely subjective, and having driven both made me realize even more that the numbers are very little of the story. Every time I use the words 'driving feel,' Lourous seems to be there to say that's a load of bullshit. Going by what a lot of 335/135 owners say about N52 cars, though, I'm willing to doubt that I'm really such a moron.
